God Loves Sex, An Honest Conversation About Sexual Desire and Holiness by Tremper Longman and Dan Allender, $1.99 Longman and Allender are excellent writers. Just last week, I was reading another book on sex by them (Intimate Allies), and was nearly blown away by an illustration they used. Intimate Allies is a fantastic book – this one might be better. Check it out!
A Hobbit, a Wardrobe, and a Great War: How J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Rediscovered Faith, Friendship, and Heroism in the Cataclysm of 1914-18 by Joseph Loconte: $1.99 Here’s a book that examines the friendship between J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis at an in depth level, and also shows the pivotal role that Tolkien had in leading Lewis to become a man of faith.
Speaking of Tolkien, here is a very good and short biography of his life: J.R.R. Tolkien: A Life Inspired, by Wyatt North. Free for Kindle Unlimited users, or $2.99. Highly rated and reviewed on Amazon, this book discusses Tolkien the literature academic and the producer of popular fiction.
Rediscovering Holiness: Knowing the Fullness of Life With God by J.I. Packer, $2.51 Here’s Packer on the subject of this book, “There was a time when all Christians laid great emphasis on God’s call to holiness. But how different it is today! To listen to our sermons and to read the books we write, and then to watch the zany, worldly, quarrelsome way we behave, you would never imagine that once the highway of holiness was clearly marked out for Bible-believers.”
Truth in a Culture of Doubt: Engaging Skeptical Challengers to the Bible by Andreas Kostenberger and Darrel Bock: $7.99 – Here is a great apologetics work from Kostenberger and Bock that focuses on some of the more modern challenges to the authenticity and authority of the Bible. Did early Christians “make” Jesus a God hundreds of years after His death? Did they change the Bible? Were other biblical books suppressed? The authors deftly explain why these charges are quite baseless in this excellent apologetics work.
Tough Topics 2: Biblical Answers to 25 Challenging Questions by Sam Storms. $2.99 Sam Storms is one of my favorite writers, and here he tackles questions such as: Did God call for genocide? Is baptism necessary for salvation? Does Hell last forever? Is suicide the unpardonable sin? Are all the world’s religions merely just different pathways to the same God? Did Joshua make the son stand still…and many more!
