Love Your Enemies, Jesus’ Command in the Gospels, by John Piper. $2.99 – Not everybody knows that John Piper, in addition to being a pastor and excellent writer, is also a highly credible scholar, having earned a Ph. D. at a German theological school. This book is a bit more scholarly than most of Piper’s books, but don’t let that turn you off! You will find a deep examination of one of the most radical and counter intuitive commands in all of history, the command given by Jesus to His followers that they should love their enemies. Worth your time, and this is the Book of the Day!
Truth Matters: Confident Faith in a Confusing World, by Andreas Kostenberger, $3.82 – This is an excellent (and relatively new, 2014) apologetics work by Kostenberger, one of my favorite authors. Truth Matters is a very convincing answer and challenge to modern skeptical scholars like Bart Ehrman, but is written in a very approachable and non-technical way. This book is perfect to read as a parent (and have your kids read) to prepare for the faith attacks that come in the teenage and college years.
The Waning Authority of Christ in The Churches: Tozer’s Last Message to the Church, by A.W. Tozer, $1.48 This is A. W. Tozer’s last book, and considered by some to be his ultimate message to the church. It is challenging, as Tozer always is, but it is a needed message to grapple with. Short, but powerful.
The Institutes of the Christian Religion, by John Calvin, $0.99 Here’s the thing: 99 percent of the people who have an opinion for or against John Calvin have not actually read much of his writing at all, which is a bit of a shame, because he is an excellent writer that is not nearly as technical or dry as you might expect. Calvin clearly loved Jesus and His Word, and you would benefit most certainly from reading his work. This book, at 99 cents, is a remarkable bargain considering that it is almost 600 pages long.
Incomparable: Explorations in the Character of God by Andrew Wilson, $99 –Incomparable looks at sixty names of God used in the Bible, and explores what God’s various names communicate about His character and personality.
