A Hunger for the Holy: Nurturing Intimacy With Christ by Calvin Miller $3.99 Calvin Miller was a bit of a modern day American C.S. Lewis in that he was a highly gifted writer of both fiction and non-fiction, and even wrote some books in the fantasy realm. Because my Father in law was one of his best friends, I had the privilege of getting to know Dr. Miller over the last seven years of his life. He was a remarkable man – an incredible mind and amazing story-teller. He treated me far better than I deserved to be treated, and engaged me in several deep and fascinating theological and spiritual talks. It stunned us all when he passed unexpectedly after not recovering from heart surgery. This book uses Psalms as a launching point to talk about our hunger for knowing God, and how to walk in intimacy with Him. Highly recommended!
NIV Zondervan Study Bible (2015) Edited by D.A. Carson: $3.99 This is an amazing deal given what is included in this study Bible – thousands of notes, hundreds of articles and all of it is very solid. A study Bible on a Kindle is definitely a different experience, but it might well be worth it to try out. I’m a huge fan of this particularly Study Bible, and bought the Kindle version a few months ago when it was on sale.
The Unexpected Journey: Conversations with People who Turned from Other Beliefs to Jesus. $1.99 – In this work, Thom Rainer interviews several people who have recently converted to following Christ. From their perspective, what led them to make that decision? How difficult was it? Did other Christians help or hinder their journey?
Hearing God: An Easy-to Follow, Step by Step Guide to Two Way Communication With God. $1.99 Peter Lord is a rare breed: A Baptist with a bit of charismatic stirred in. I haven’t read this book, but I do appreciate some of Lord’s earlier writings and emphasis on prayer.
Facing the Giants Novelization by Eric Wilson: $1.99 While the acting might not win an Academy Awards, I actually though Facing The Giants was one of the better Christian movies out there. If you enjoyed the movie – the novel version of it is on sale today, and actually has very solid reviews on Amazon.
